A Short Far Cry 6 Review
In this issue of the Gamer Plum newsletter, we will be discussing the latest installment of Far Cry.
Far Cry 6 is too close to the concept of a Far Cry Game, yet distant from the ‘grind’ aspect of the franchise. The latest installment from the series revolves around ‘Yara’, a fictional country that is in midst of a revolution. This also plays as an ironic statement since the this game tries to do the same. However, not in the way it was asked to do.
Currently, Ubisoft’s open-world gameplay has been cursed with repetitive missions and high-grind sessions. This has been the reason for the poor reception of the new RPG-centric Assassin’s Creed games and the last two installments from the Ghost Recon series. The Far Cry series has yet to receive the positive reception that it once did after the release of Far Cry 3.
The sixth game in the series has all that it takes to put the franchise back to its place, but it also has everything that the gamers hated about the series as well. With Antón Castillo, the developers were looking to build a perfect villain for a Far Cry game, yet he turned out to be quite predictable and one-dimensional. His actions are not surprising but expected. The island of Yara is big, but seems lifeless with very less to do. The current rating of Far Cry 6 in Metacritic is 76. This might be above-average, but it is the lowest-rated game from the Far Cry franchise (not counting New Dawn, as it was a spin-off).
On the other hand, it also takes you back to the tropical roots that Far Cry was known for. The island of Yara is beautiful and vibrant. And when it comes to the ‘grind’, the game has more emphasis on the main plot. There is a balance between the grind and the actual gameplay and the combat system has also been improved.
In the end, we can say that the game belongs to the Far Cry franchise. It tries to move away from the negative aspects of the last two Far Cry games but misses the mark. The main goal for this installment was not to be innovative like the recent Ghost Recon and Assassin’s creed games, instead it acts as a great game for passing time.
Sometimes you just want to pet a crocodile and make him kill someone for you.
